Starting from 15 November 2026, only the newer ISO 20022 XML format will be supported in the SEB system. In connection with this, the data requirements for payment files will also change, and as an important update, it will become mandatory to provide addresses in payment files in a structured or hybrid format. For businesses, this change means that company systems must support the newer ISO XML 2019 version, and payment files must include the required data fields.
The update of formats is driven by EU payment standards, which aim to harmonize the formatting of payment data, improve data quality, and increase the automation and accuracy of payments.
To ensure continued seamless processing of your payments you must use either:
- Structured address format, or
- Hybrid address format
Until 15 November 2026, SEB will accept in parallel both SEPA XML 2009 versions (pain.001.001.03 and pain.002.001.03), older M-type import files, as well as the newer ISO XML 2019 versions (pain.001.001.09 and pain.002.001.10).
Changes to payment file formats from 15 November 2026:
- SEB will discontinue support for older SEPA XML 2009 versions (pain.001.001.03 and pain.002.001.03) as well as older M-type payment initiation files.
- Only newer ISO XML 2019 version will remain supported (pain.001.001.09 and pain.002.001.10).
- Unstructured addresses will no longer be supported. The postal addresses must be provided in separate structured data fields instead of a single free-text line or a hybrid address format must be used.
Main changes coming with pain.001.001.09
- For RequestedExecutionDate sub-element Dt is added
- BICOrBEI is replaced with AnyBIC BIC is replaced with BICFI
- Postal address is changed to structured or hybrid
- If postal address detail are used, then at least TwnNm and Ctry values must be filled
Discontinuation of pain.001.001.03
From 15 November and onwards, ISO XML 2009 pain.001.001.03 support will be discontinued, meaning that the format won’t be validated anymore. Any attempted upload of pain.001.001.03 will fail the validation process. We encourage you to begin using the new ISO XML 2019 pain.001.001.09 format as soon as possible.
Regarding file types which are not ISO20022 pain format
M-type formats will be discontinued on 15 November and onwards. If you are a user of this payment file format, please transition to XML 2019 pain.001.001.09 format as soon as possible.
How do I as a customer need to prepare?
If you initiate payments via files, please ensure that your beneficiary data includes the new minimum requirements – town name (TwnNm) and country code (Ctry). We recommend clarifying this information with your payees if necessary.
Review payment file generation: If not already done, update your payment initiation systems (ERP, TMS, host-to-host formats) to support ISO 20022 messaging with structured or hybrid postal address fields.
If your company database does not store city name and country code as separate fields, please contact your system provider and clarify how to implement these fields before 15 November 2026.
