Advantages of PZU home insurance:
With the PZU home insurance the building or apartment is insured on an all-risk basis against unexpected, sudden and unforeseeable damage, subject to the exclusions set out in the home insurance terms and conditions.
Buildings under construction will be insured if the construction works of walls and roof have been finished and doors and windows have been installed. The building must be closed and secured against intruders.

Does PZU* allow for the depreciation of a building when indemnifying loss or damage?
No, all loss or damage related to the building is indemnified up to its replacement value, and no allowance is made for depreciation. That said, PZU
does not insure buildings older than 50 years if they have not been renovated in the past 20 years.
Does PZU
pay indemnity for damage due to flood as a result of a storm?
Yes. However you need to have a valid insurance cover for flood.
Does PZU
pay indemnity for damage, caused by penetration of water or snow (incl. water from melting) through the structures of the building?
Yes, if this is due to damage caused by a storm (e.g. the storm damages the roof or roof covering). PZU
shall not pay indemnity for damage, if the water or snow penetrates due to a construction fault.
If our neighbours' flat is damaged due to a leak from our plumbing, will PZU
also indemnify the loss or damage caused to our neighbours?
Yes; liability insurance cover has to have been selected for this. PZU
will provide indemnity on a claim up to the limit of the indemnity under liability insurance.
Is the flood cover included in all-risk insurance or can it be bought as additional risk cover?
Flood cover can be bought as addition risk cover. Flood cover is not included in all-risk insurance.
Is the cover for electrical fault of household property included only in all-risk insurance?
Yes. Damage caused by electrical fault are covered with all-risk insurance. Power surge caused by lightning strike is compensated under cover against fire.
Does PZU
impose a fine due to early termination of an insurance contract?
No fines are imposed: Insurance premium is refunded pro rata i.e. proportionally.
Does PZU
pay indemnity for costs of demolition and waste collection?
This is always indemnified for and even, if the total amount of damage and expenses exceeds the sum insured (10% of the sum insured, however not more than 100,000 euros).
Is the protection of facilities included in the price?
Yes, protection of facilities is included in the price within 10,000 euros. If the value of facilities is higher, an additional cover should be taken out for the part exceeding the said amount.
Is it an insured event if a bicycle is stolen from the backyard or courtyard of my own home?
No, the insured event is burglary. Theft (if an unlocked bicycle is in the backyard) is not an insured event.
Does insurance cover for property inside a home extend to a locked bicycle stolen from in front of the door of a shop?
Loss or damage arising out of theft, losing, mislaying or forgetfulness are not covered by insurance. The theft of a bicycle, locked or unlocked, from in front of a shop is theft. Insured event is burglary or robbery. Theft of a locked or unlocked bicycle from the car, home, garage or cellar is burglary and taking the bicycle from the owner by force is robbery.
Does PZU
pay indemnity for damage caused by the activity of domestic animals?
Under all-risk insurance, PZU
does not pay indemnity for damage caused by microorganisms (mushrooms, dry rot, etc.), domestic animals, birds, plants, pests or insects.
Examples of loss events covered by home insurance
Protection against vandalism
There was an attempt to break into the house, as a result of which the door was damaged as well. PZU
indemnified the expenses incurred due to the repair of the door.
Protection of electronic devices and property inside a home
1. The thermostat of an electric sauna heater was broken, as a result of which the electric sauna heater overheated and a fire broke out. PZU
indemnified the overhaul of the interior finishing of the entire flat, the restoration of the sauna premises, and the cleaning and partial replacement of the furnishings.
2. A mirror with a magnifying glass was left on a wooden window sill; due to the action of the sun, it ignited the wooden window sill, with the entire room being damaged by soot. PZU
indemnified the loss incurred.
3. A heat pump fault, with the claims handling uncovering a leak in the underground piping. PZU
indemnified the cost of repairs.
4. A computer, 3 years in use, developed a fault on its motherboard, which was repaired, with PZU
indemnifying the cost of the repairs.
5. Whilst travelling abroad, the boot of a vehicle was broken into, and personal belongings worth more than 3000 euros were stolen. This case was registered with the local police, and PZU
indemnified the loss incurred.
6. Due to overvoltage caused during a thunderstorm, a digital set-top box, a router and a computer were all put out of service. PZU
indemnified the loss.
Cover against flood
As a result of a flood during long-lasting and strong rains, the ground water penetrated into the house, flooding the entire house within ca 40 cm up the ground. The client had a valid flood insurance cover and PZU
paid for the damage, caused to the house and household property as a result of flood.
PZU does not insure buildings older than 50 years if they have not been renovated in the past 20 years.
Insurance does not cover damage caused by unconcealed theft (including e.g. property stolen from the yard or balcony, except for the theft of garden and patio furniture, trampoline, patio heater, smoker and barbeque oven, grill and robotic lawn mower, which are subject to compensation from the yard of a private residence or semi-detached house provided that these were stolen from a fenced area), disappearance of, losing or forgetting items.
