Code card

A code card can be easily copied, and thus, it is not the most secure means for authentication. We are going to gradually close the clients’ code cards during 2018. In the future, it will be possible to log into Internet Bank by using the Smart-ID, ID-card, Mobile-ID and PIN-calculator.

Questions and answers about code cards

Why will the use of code cards be limited?

Code cards are a means of authentication that has a low level of security. An amendment will enter into force in 2019, which will impose stricter security requirements on the means of authentication used to confirm payments. As a result of this amendment, code cards will become useless and users of the Internet Bank will have to choose a new method of authentication.

When will code cards be closed?

Code cards will become invalid in January 2019 at the latest. We will close code cards in stages to alleviate the burden on our customer support that closing the cards will certainly cause. All users of code cards will receive a personal notification with the information of the time when their code card will be closed and that as of that time, their code card can no longer be used.

How and when will clients be informed of the upcoming changes?

All clients will receive a notification to their Internet Bank at least two months before the code card is closed. The notification will show the date when the code card will become invalid as well as information about other means of identification that can be used instead of code cards.

What are the alternatives to code cards?

Smart-ID, mobile ID, ID-card, and the PIN calculator. An overview of these methods is available on our website.

Which solutions are available for clients who cannot visit a branch of the bank – people with mobility disabilities or clients who are located abroad?

We recommend using Smart-ID, ID-card, or mobile ID. If the client cannot use any of the abovementioned solutions, they can apply for a PIN calculator to be sent by mail. For this, they will need to send a letter through the Internet Bank (or a notarised letter). The postage for the PIN calculator is 5 euros within Estonia and 10 euros when sending abroad. The issue fee of the PIN calculator, 15 euros, will be added to this. A letter can be sent from the Internet Bank while the code card is still usable and it is possible to log in to the Internet Bank with it.
Additionally, clients may prepare a notarised authorisation document so that someone else could represent them at a branch of the bank. The person who was authorised must visit a branch of our bank with the original notarised authorisation document.

Which means of authentication are available for children?

Smart-ID or ID-card. Children aged 15 and up can create a mobile ID with their mobile network operator.
