Applying for a bank card for a 6–17-year old

You can open an account and apply for a bank card in all SEB branches. In order to apply for a card, take along:

  • ID (passport, ID card or driving licence) of the child and the parent;
  • when applying for ISIC Õpilane card, a colour passport photo of your child, the valid pupil card (if your child does not have one, a certificate from the school proving that your child is a pupil there).

A parent can apply for a card in a branch alone, but the card must be received by the child and the parent together. When coming to receive your card, take along:

  • ID (passport, ID card or driving licence) of the child and the parent;
  • when applying for ISIC Õpilane card, the valid pupil card (if your child does not have one, a certificate from the school proving that your child is a pupil there).

If you child has a personal account and the Internet Bank Agreement and you wish to tie the card to your child's account, then you should submit an order for a card through your child's internet bank.

What to keep in mind when organising your child's finances

  • In the case of theft or losing the wallet, your child will lose all of their money. Therefore, you should not give pocket money to your child in cash.
  • The money on the bank account is safely protected with a PIN-code. Hence, it is important to explain to your child why the PIN-code cannot be shared with anyone else or kept in the wallet.
  • For a comfortable transfer of pocket money, we recommend you to conclude a standing payment order, whereby a fixed amount will be transferred to your child's bank account on a date determined by you.
  • The quickest and most comfortable way to transfer money to your child is a mobile payment. The transfer will be made in an instant and all you need is a mobile phone.
  • The easiest way to teach saving habits to your child is to open a Digital Coin Jar for them. This way, your child can save money for their dreams.

Advice for children how to use money wisely

  • Always keep some money for back up.
  • Do not spend all of your money at once, be mindful also of the upcoming days.
  • Keep as little money in your wallet as possible and pay with your card instead, if possible.
  • Do not forget the PIN-code of your card and do not share it with anyone else.
  • Do not give your bank card to anyone else.
  • If you wish to save money for something, put aside a small amount each week or use the Digital Coin Jar.
  • When you lose your bank card or wallet, mention it your parents right away and call on 665 5100.
