SEB invites Estonian residents to think more about protecting the environment and to celebrate Earth Hour on Saturday

The World Wide Fund for Nature and SEB invite Estonian residents to take part in the worldwide event Earth Hour on Saturday, 30 March, where at 20.30, local time, any non-essential lighting will be turned off for an hour.

The purpose of Earth Hour is to reduce the quantity of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and to get people to think more about conserving the environment.

“Earth Hour was created to give notice of the finite nature of the Earth’s resources, so that we think more sustainably in our everyday lives and business activities,” said Ainar Leppänen, Head of Retail Banking at SEB. “It is the customers who increasingly make companies create and design progressively more environmentally friendly products and services. As a major enterprise, we keep a very close eye on our sustainability footprint as a part of our everyday activities – we use green energy for providing services to our customers every day, we provide paperless service in our offices and we provide consultations to our clients using digital, i.e. remote channels. We thereby economise on time and transport expenses, and we also produce less CO2. During Earth Hour, we will turn off the bank’s logo and advertising lights, and the lighting in our offices,” Leppänen added.

With their event, the WWF wishes to bring attention to climate change and global warming. Earth Hour first began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million households turned off their lights for an hour. SEB has participated in Earth Hour for ten consecutive years already.
